The beauty of WV
This week has been a whirlwind for sure. We left Monday morning for a noon meeting in Petersburg, WV and then to the North Fork Mountain Inn located on Smoke Hole Road, not far from Seneca Rocks. The inn has new owners and we designed a new logo for them and in our shrewd negotiation style, we did it for a trade of a 2 night stay. The inn is located up a steep drive but offers stunning views of the Smoke Hole Canyon.
We had a delicious dinner and good conversation with the other guests that night at the inn. One couple was from New Jersey and had discovered West Virginia when they wanted to flee the city during the pandemic. The other couple were from Baltimore and DC and had been to several other places in West Virginia. They all spoke of how much they liked our state and how friendly the people were here. It was fun to sit around the dinner table with 4 strangers and our hosts and have good conversation. No phones in sight!
Tuesday morning started with a delicious breakfast, catching up on work and then a couple meetings in Franklin. The fall colors were epic as we traveled around the Potomac Highlands. After our meetings, we took a long walk along the South Branch of the Potomac that flows through the canyon. Fisherman dotted the banks as we took in the quiet and the scenery.
Back to the inn for the evening to have the wine and cheese we brought from home. A relaxing evening of just chatting and enjoying the view and the solitude.
The next morning we headed out for Shepherdstown for another meeting. After a good meeting, we went for a long walk on the C & O Canal Towpath that borders the Potomac River. We stayed at the Bavarian Inn & Brewing Company owned by our dear friends, the Asam family. It is one of our favorite places to be. The food is amazing and the service even better. We met our friends Annette and Karl in downtown Shepherdstown at Bistro 112 for a little wine and apps and then back to the Bavarian for a nightcap. We turned the TV on for the first time in 3 days as we got ready for bed.
There are so many incredible places in West Virginia. All with their own unique charm and personality. If you love rugged outdoor beauty, the Potomac Highlands region of the state is incredible. The Eastern Panhandle is steeped with history, great dining, and amazing people. It is a privilege to promote theses areas to potential visitors because we know they will have a great experience. Get out and explore the Mountain State. You won’t be disappointed.
