The Beauty of Golf.
As most people know, I love to play golf. I love it for a variety of reasons. I love being outdoors in beautiful places. I love the competition. I love how golf tests you as much mentally as it does physically. But the thing I love the most about golf is how it brings people together.
I just got back from an annual 5 day golf trip in Pinehurst, North Carolina with 11 other friends. We range from guys in their 20’s to guys in their 70’s. But we all have a common love for golf, and because of this trip, a common love for one another.
Golf is unique in that it brings together people of all ages and backgrounds. Our 12 players represent 5 states. We have sons, dads, and grandpas. But we are all friends first. Where else would a 29 year old spend 4 hours playing a game together with a 73 year old, other than on a golf course?
This trip has been a constant for me for the last 11 years. It is something we all look forward to and start talking about the next year as soon as we putt out on the last green. I am the “Cruise Director” of the trip and set up all the golf and lodging every year and I plan on continuing to do it as long as I can still play.
I admire and appreciate these friends so much. Without golf, these relationships may never have happened. At the minimum, they would not be near as strong. Golf made my relationship with my father closer. It has made my relationship with my son closer. It has made many of my friendships closer. Golf has introduced me to so many wonderful people over my life. That is the true power and beauty of golf and why so many people love the game.
